Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is one of the least understood of all therapies, yet one of the most effective.  It is an powerful way of solving personal problems as the mind is in a relaxed state.  Conducting therapy while a person is in hypnosis is extremely powerful. Its success lies in the ability to gain insight into the subconscious mind in order to understand thoughts, feelings and what drives behaviour.

Hypnosis itself is not a therapy, rather the therapy, is conducted in hypnosis. The most advanced form of this therapy is called analytical hypnotherapy or hypnoanalysis.  This approach focuses on resolving the cause of distress rather than just the symptom.

My role as a hypnotherapist and psychotherapist is to help you understand how the experiences you have had in your life have shaped the person you are today.

When you experience people, situations or events that  cause you to feel anxious, angry or upset for example are actually triggering emotions experinces that you had growing up.  By uncovering these unconscious influencers of behaviour, you can recognise them and develop better coping strategies. Releasing negative emotions and parking them in the past will allow you to go beyond previously held limitations. In hypnotherapy, this type of therapy is called hypno-psychotherapy, hypno-analytical therapy or hypno-analysis.

Analytical hypnotherapy is a powerful, in-depth, therapeutic approach that can be used in order to resolve the most stubborn of symptoms a person may have. Many issues can be helped using suggestion hypnotherapy, however when symptoms are beyond a persons control, it is essential to do hypno-analytical therapy, to find and remove the root cause of the presenting symptom.

For example when people are experiencing anxiety or panic attacks, they are triggering a feeling from their past. If a person experiences anxiety while public speaking they may be triggering a time when the felt humiliated in public.

Many issues can be helped enormously through suggestion therapy. However, whenever a person has symptoms of anxiety that are beyond their own control, there is need to do hypno-analysis, to establish and remove the root cause of the presenting symptom. Through analysis that the root cause of the presenting symptom, can be revealed and released.

What to Expect from Therapy?

Expect a safe and comfortable environment where you will feel totally at ease and free to express your thoughts and feelings about the difficulties you have experienced and the challenges your are facing.  To begin, you can speak about what brought you to therapy and what changes you want for your life.

You will deal with the underlying originating causes of your anxiety or distress using analytical therapy.  This approach takes you to the deepest levels of your mind to release repressed emotion in order to resolve conflict, trauma and distress.

At the very heart of all psychotherapy is the type of relationship in which one can share everything.

You will also gain insights into behaviours that were previously unconscious to you and understand what’s driving that behaviour.

You can then learn to deal with difficulty and distressing conditions, such as fear, anxiety, low-self esteem, poor confidence, traumatic experiences, relationship difficulties, grieving, devastating effects of physical, mental and emotional abuse, neglect or abandonment.

Therapy is safe, effective and self-enlightening with little chance of relapse.  It helps people understand who they are, why they feel the way they do, how their past has contributed to their present and how to overcome challenges.  People learn to face their fears as the realise that’s hwo they grow and self-actualise.

Our fears and insecurities make us hide our vulnerabilities.  We doubt our adequacy and seek to impress.  We do this by acting out roles, wearing masks and playing games.  Unfortunately we’ve been doing it for so long that we can hardly distinguish who we are from what we are being.  When we become aware of what we are doing and willing to be honest with ourselves then we can really grow.
